Don’t be fooled by the recent warmth! A change is on the way for Friday into the weekend, with much colder temperatures and precipitation moving into western Montana and north central Idaho. Forecast models continue to show the bulk of precipitation developing across southwest Montana and Lemhi County, though most all locations should at least see measurable precipitation. There is moderately high confidence (60 percent chance) that snow levels will drop to 6000 feet in southwest Montana and Lemhi County, allowing for moderate snowfall accumulations in the higher terrain and over mountain passes. Another somewhat less likely scenario (20 percent chance) brings snow levels down as low as 4500 feet, which could allow for moderate snow accumulations into the higher valleys (think Butte, Anaconda, Deer Lodge) and heavy mountain snow to the higher terrain and mountain passes. Spring storms can be notoriously fickle so stay tuned to the forecast and prepare for the potential for winter driving conditions, especially Friday night into Saturday.
